Your hard work and long nights paid off, prom night was a success! What’s next? Prom is one of the most memorable nights for students, which calls for a special celebration. Yay for Post Prom, After Prom, Late Night Lock In, Project Post Prom! Whatever you call it, the goal is always the same: a fun, safe, substance-free night students want to attend when prom ends.
Post prom should begin as soon as possible after prom ends. Students need just enough time to change out of formal attire and into casual clothes before checking in at the after prom location.
Only if fundraising has fallen short and is an absolute must. Students are less likely to attend if they have to pay.
Popular locations include your school’s gymnasium, another school’s gymnasium, an entertainment complex, YMCA, college or university spaces, or recreation center.
Post prom can absolutely have a theme! It could piggyback off your prom’s theme, you could take a new route, or avoid it altogether. After prom, students are ready to unwind and enjoy all the activities you have planned. They may not care about post prom’s theme as much as the prom theme. Some quick themed event ideas include . . .
What refreshments should we serve?
Again, this part of the party doesn’t have to be as extravagant as prom. Go with a catering service from a local food chain, order pizza, or make tasty appetizers! Many local restaurants are happy to donate or offer discounts for an event that is offering such a great night for students.
Should there be prizes?
Prizes are a great incentive for students to attend and stay at post prom. Choose a fun way to give away prizes like a competition, blind draw, or wheel spin. Great prizes include college necessities, sports tickets, and gift cards. This is also another good time to get local businesses involved with donations.
What activities should post prom offer?
In one room, there might be an inflatable Velcro wall or inflatable obstacle course. In the next, students could find sumo wrestling suits or a mechanical bull. Any inflatables that are great for teen entertainment are options. Other activities can range from casino tables like blackjack and poker, to a photo booth or even video games. Some other popular post prom entertainment options include: Laser Tag, Airbrush Tattoos, Wax Hands, Sports Games, and funny relay races. Of course, your location may also have some of its own activities like bowling or arcade games.
Some after proms will set aside a time for an entertainer. After everyone has eaten and spent time with activities, settling down to watch a magician, hypnotist, comedian, or even a movie on a giant inflatable movie screen is a great idea.
